SINGAPORE, Oct 20 — Two people were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out at a unit in an HDB block in Queenstown on Monday.

Footage of the incident shared on Threads on Oct 19 shows thick black smoke pouring from the upper floors, with at least three floors appearing to be affected by the blaze.

Firefighters are also seen responding to the fire on multiple levels of the block.

When AsiaOne arrived at the scene, the fire had subsided with police officers present at the block.

Responding to queries from AsiaOne, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to a fire at Block 158 Mei Ling Street at about 12.30pm.

The fire involved items placed outside a unit on the 10th floor and was extinguished by SCDF using a water jet.

Two people who were inside the unit were evacuated by SCDF, with one taken to Singapore General Hospital (SGH) for smoke inhalation.

A person from a neighbouring unit was also taken to SGH for smoke inhalation.

About 25 people were evacuated by the police and SCDF as a precautionary measure, while the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
