SINGAPORE, Oct 13 — A 52-year-old man was arrested by the police after he assaulted two Land Transport Authority’s (LTA) active mobility enforcement officers (AMEOs) during a recent enforcement operation.

LTA said in a Facebook post on Monday (Oct 12) that the incident, involving a male rider suspected of using a non-compliant device, happened in Ang Mo Kio.

The man was arrested for voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from his duty.

“LTA has zero tolerance for violence or abuse against our officers. We will work closely with the police to ensure that such acts are dealt with sternly,” it said.

“We remind all members of the public to cooperate with our officers and comply with their instructions during enforcement checks.”

In response to AsiaOne’s queries, the police said that the man was arrested on Oct 8.

Investigations into the offence – which carries a penalty of up to seven years’ jail, a fine, or caning – are ongoing.

70 devices ‘up lorry’

Meanwhile, AMEOs detected a total of 503 offences during enforcement operations in September.

According to LTA, 70 devices were impounded.

Based on the photos shared by LTA, these operations took place in the vicinity of Bukit Panjang, Balestier and Whampoa.

“We will continue to conduct regular patrols and take firm action against errant users, including those using non-compliant devices and riding on pedestrian overhead bridges to keep our paths safe for everyone,” LTA said. — AsiaOne
