SINGAPORE, Oct 6 — A 32-year-old man will be charged with murder following an incident at a Housing Board block in Telok Blangah Heights that left one man dead and another injured, police said today.
CNA reported that police said they received calls for assistance at about 6pm in the vicinity of Block 61 Telok Blangah Heights and arrived at the scene within 10 minutes.
Officers found a 73-year-old man lying motionless and a 53-year-old man injured on the ground floor of the block. Both were taken to Singapore General Hospital, where the older man later died from his injuries. The 53-year-old was conscious when conveyed to hospital.
Authorities said the suspect later contacted the police to surrender himself and was subsequently arrested nearby.
Investigators believe the man acted alone and said there is currently no indication that the incident was linked to terrorism or motivated by religion.
The suspect is expected to be charged on Wednesday under Section 302(1) of Singapore’s Penal Code. A murder conviction carries the death penalty.
Police investigations are ongoing.
