SINGAPORE, Oct 3 — Would you put your personal life out there for the world to see?
For one Singaporean woman, that’s what she is doing as she joins the latest season of the popular US reality series 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way.
And she doesn’t seem to shy away from the details.
In a clip shared on the show’s Instagram page on Monday (September 28), Alimna, who goes by Ally, shared that she had met her 49-year-old American beau, John, on a night out.
“I was single, having fun and partying almost every night. And one night, I met this really hot guy from America,” she said, candidly describing their intimate encounter as the best she’s ever had.
In another video uploaded by the show, the couple revealed that Ally was the one who made the first move.
“She asked me out on a date, which I obviously accepted,” John said as the Singaporean quipped: “I wanted a free meal, girl’s gotta eat.”
The couple has a 21-year age gap.
But with Ally in Singapore and John in the US, maintaining a long-distance relationship wasn’t always easy.
The couple often went “long stretches” without seeing each other.
“Things got so hard that I wanted to break up with him several times,” the 28-year-old said in ExtraTV interview on Friday.
She then asked for “a sign” about their relationship and got a rather unexpected answer a week later — she was pregnant.
In the teaser clip, Ally revealed that she was six months pregnant at the time, adding that it was “crazy” as it was not something she had seen coming.
With a baby now on the way, the couple began looking for ways to close the distance between them.
According to Ally, John tried to expedite a visa for her move to the US, but the application was denied.
As a result, they decided John would relocate to Singapore to be with her and their baby.
John, 49, hails from Connecticut, and has what he described as a less-than-typical job designing and manufacturing sonar equipment.
The divorcee has two sons and runs a business with his father.
“I’m basically a nerdy, mad scientist who somehow landed a hot girlfriend on the other side of the world,” he said.
But while the couple is preparing to start their new life together — there appears to be another hurdle they need to overcome.
“My parents don’t know I’m pregnant,” Ally revealed.
Outside of the show, Ally also shares glimpses of her relationship with John on social media, including their travels to other cities such as Amsterdam and Denmark.
90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way is a spin-off of the popular US reality programme 90 Day Fiancé, which follows the life of Americans who move overseas to build a life with their partners.
The upcoming eighth season with Ally and John will feature five couples navigating their relationships in countries including Singapore, Ghana, France, Italy, Australia and Mexico.
It will premiere on October 4. — AsiaOne
