SINGAPORE, Sept 29 — A 24-year-old Muay Thai fighter has died after he was taken to hospital unconscious following a tournament at the National Stadium earlier this month, with police saying preliminary investigations found no suspected foul play.

The police confirmed the death on Monday, CNA reported, but did not disclose the fighter’s identity or when he died.

A police report was made at about 8am on September 13, a day after the man competed in the AMC 13 Fight for Hope tournament and was subsequently taken to hospital.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it received a call for assistance at 1 Stadium Drive at about 7.05pm on September 12, with one person conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

The fighter trained at Muay Thai gym Inspire Fitness Asia and had taken part in the tournament that evening.

Police said investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death are continuing.

The Singapore Muaythai Association said on September 17 that an incident had occurred during the event and that the on-site medical team provided treatment before the fighter was taken to hospital.

The association said it had begun a formal review and was working with the relevant parties to establish what had happened.

It later disputed online claims that the fighter had been knocked out during the tournament, saying the two competitors had attended the results announcement and left the ring without assistance before a medical emergency occurred.

The Fight for Hope tournament, held over three weekends in August and September, was organised by the Singapore Muaythai Association to raise funds and awareness for Breast Cancer Foundation Singapore.
