SINGAPORE, Sept 27 — A man has reportedly been charged after allegedly starting a fire by burning an undergarment outside a mosque in Singapore’s Raffles Place.

According to The Straits Times, Martin See Hock Leng was charged yesterday with causing or contributing to the risk of a dangerous fire, using insulting words and two counts of theft.

Court documents reportedly stated that the fire was started at about 8.05pm on  at the entrance of Masjid Moulana Mohamed Ali in UOB Plaza.

Police said a member of the public extinguished the fire, with no injuries reported.

See is also accused of telling a man praying at Novena Church on June 24, “You are Hindu. You go out immediately,” forming the basis of the insulting words charge.

The theft charges involve an eyewear frame worth S$249 (RM1,014) allegedly taken from a shop at Mandarin Gallery and a S$15 silver necklace allegedly stolen from a shop in Arab Street.

The judge ordered See to be remanded at the Institute of Mental Health for a medical examination, with his case due to be mentioned again in October.
