SINGAPORE, Sept 6 — A 20-year-old Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) full-time national serviceman has died after being found unconscious while on duty at Marina Bay Fire Station, less than a month after completing his firefighter training.

Lance Corporal Muhammad Nur Ilham Mohammed Iswadi was found in the station’s training yard at about 8.10am today, Singapore-based media organisation CNA reported, citing an SCDF statement.

SCDF personnel immediately performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation before he was taken to Singapore General Hospital.

“He was subsequently conveyed to Singapore General Hospital, where he passed away,” SCDF said.

Muhammad Nur Ilham had enlisted on February 10 and completed his firefighter course at the Civil Defence Academy on August 7. He was posted to Marina Bay Fire Station on August 18, less than three weeks before his death.

Police said preliminary investigations did not suggest foul play.

“A 20-year-old man was conveyed unconscious to the hospital, where he subsequently passed away. Based on preliminary investigations, the police do not suspect foul play,” police said.

Investigations are continuing.

SCDF said it was “saddened by his death” and extended its “deepest condolences to his family”.

“We are providing all necessary assistance and support to the family during this difficult time,” the force said.
