SINGAPORE, Sept 1 — A repeat offender has been jailed for nine months and 22 weeks after assaulting a colleague during an altercation at a Coleman Street nightspot in Singapore, leaving the victim with a traumatic brain injury.

The Straits Times reported that Muhammad Adli Amran, 31, was also fined S$1,200 (RM3,808) after pleading guilty to one count each of assault and an offence under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act.

The assault marked Adli’s fourth violence-related conviction, with the 47-year-old victim still unable to regain his sense of smell despite recovering from his injuries.

The court heard that Adli was working as a bouncer at the nightspot while the victim was a manager when a commotion involving other people broke out in the early hours of May 3, 2025.

The victim shouted at Adli over how he had handled the situation, leading the two intoxicated men to get into an altercation.

Adli punched the victim, who fell and struck a glass panel, prompting their colleagues to call an ambulance before Adli was arrested.

The victim was later found to have suffered a traumatic brain injury that caused him to lose his sense of smell and was given hospitalisation leave until May 17, 2025.

Adli was separately convicted over his involvement in a company that obtained work passes for nine foreigners despite not employing them.

The court heard that in 2022, Adli discussed opening a restaurant with two people, including a man known as “Ah Boy”, and handed him photographs of his identity card.

Ah Boy subsequently made Adli the registered director of Chira King, but later took control of the company after the pair disagreed over Adli’s proposed share in the business.

Ministry of Manpower prosecutors said Adli did not take part in the company’s decision-making or know how it operated, but he continued helping Ah Boy access his Singpass and the company’s Corppass accounts.

Between around mid-2023 and July 2024, Adli scanned QR codes sent by Ah Boy or an unknown number and provided one-time passwords to facilitate logins, despite knowing that work pass applications for foreigners were being made.

Work passes linked to Chira King were subsequently obtained for nine foreigners between February and July 2024, although the company did not employ them and Adli did not know where they worked.

Adli received S$100 in cash each month from other parties, including Ah Boy, between mid-2023 and July 2024.

He was arrested by the Ministry of Manpower in September 2024.
