SINGAPORE, Aug 26 — Singaporean online commentator Amos Yee Pang Sang was reportedly handed four new charges today over online content concerning race and children.

CNA reported that the latest charges bring the 27-year-old’s total to seven, including three alleged National Service (NS) offences.

According to charge sheets cited by CNA, Yee allegedly promoted disharmony between racial groups through two blog posts in April in which he discussed discrimination, crimes and sentencing, and called for protests against another community.

He is also accused of making similar remarks in a video uploaded to X on May 27, which the platform subsequently removed following a police direction.

Another charge concerns alleged indecent communications in a June 30 article and three videos posted in 2021, in which Yee reportedly advocated sexual relationships involving children and the legalisation of child sexual abuse material.

His lawyer, Divanan Narkunan, said the new charges were served yesterday and that he was still taking instructions from Yee.

Prosecutors offered bail of S$15,000 (RM47,550), with conditions barring Yee from posting his views on paedophilia or content that could incite ill feelings between racial groups.

Yee, who attended court with his mother, did not address the court.

He was initially charged with three national service-related offences after being deported from the United States in March, but a planned September guilty plea has been vacated and the case fixed for a pre-trial conference on September 18.

Promoting racial disharmony carries up to three years’ imprisonment, a fine or both, while indecent communication likely to cause alarm is punishable by a fine of up to S$5,000.

Yee left Singapore for the US in 2016 and received asylum there in 2017, but was later convicted of possessing child pornography and grooming a minor, sentenced to six years’ imprisonment and ultimately deported after further immigration detention.
