KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 — A 32-year-old Singaporean man rescued by Malaysian police after he was allegedly kidnapped with his girlfriend is wanted by Singapore’s Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) over a suspected drug-related offence.

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) told Channel NewsAsia (CNA) that the man and a 33-year-old Singaporean woman were rescued by the Royal Malaysia Police on Tuesday following the alleged kidnapping.

SPF said preliminary investigations by Malaysian police found that the man did not possess a valid travel document, while both he and the woman tested positive for drugs.

The pair are believed to know each other, while the man is also believed to know one of the alleged kidnappers, SPF said.

The families of both individuals alerted Singapore police after becoming concerned about their safety.

SPF also expressed appreciation to Malaysian police for their “swift assistance and close collaboration in securing the safe rescue of both individuals”.

Malaysian media had earlier reported that the woman was the man’s girlfriend and was 28 years old.

Six Malaysians aged between 32 and 46 were reportedly arrested over the alleged kidnap-for-ransom plot, with five said to have criminal records and four testing positive for drugs.

The case marks the second time in a week that Malaysian police have rescued Singaporeans allegedly kidnapped in the country.

On August 7, police rescued a 72-year-old Singaporean man in Kedah in a separate case.
