SINGAPORE, Aug 8 — Two Singaporean men, aged 37 and 44, will be charged in court today over their suspected involvement in a conspiracy to help lawyer and opposition politician Lim Tean illegally leave Singapore for Malaysia, according to The Straits Times.

Singapore police said preliminary investigations found that the two men had allegedly conspired to make arrangements for Lim to depart Singapore illegally.

Lim was supposed to surrender on Aug 3 to begin serving a jail term for practising law without a valid certificate.

He was arrested by the Malaysian police (PDRM) in Johor Bahru on Aug 6.

Singapore police said they were working closely with the PDRM to secure his return to Singapore.

The two men will each face one count of engaging in a conspiracy to do an act that had a tendency to defeat the course of justice, knowing that it was likely to have that effect.

If convicted, they face up to seven years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
