SINGAPORE, July 29 — A 23-year-old Singapore permanent resident was reportedly charged today with allegedly transferring money to support terrorist acts in Gaza.

Singapore’s The Straits Times reported that Myanmar national Saw Ryan Htoo faces two charges of providing funds for terrorist purposes.

He allegedly transferred US$72.28 (RM295.63) to a PayPal account belonging to Bradley Sainsbury on August 9, 2024, to facilitate a terrorist act in Gaza City, and attempted to send another US$1 (RM4.09) to an account owned by Meredith Pollick 10 days later.

Prosecutors said he had been told that the money would be used to buy military equipment.

Singapore’s Ministry of Home Affairs reportedly said Saw became radicalised after consuming Islamophobic, far-right extremist and anti-Semitic content online, and later posted messages supporting violence against several groups.

The court reportedly denied him bail after prosecutors argued that the extent of his radicalisation made him a public safety risk, while Saw said he would contest the charges.

He was remanded pending his next court appearance on August 21, and faces up to 10 years’ jail, a fine of up to S$500,000, or both if convicted.
