JAKARTA, July 6 — Indonesia and Singapore signed 26 agreements today to deepen cooperation in areas including energy, the digital economy, cybersecurity, defence, food security and connectivity, as the two neighbours sought to strengthen bilateral ties and regional stability.
President Prabowo Subianto said the agreements, reached during the annual Indonesia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, comprised 18 government-to-government cooperation agreements and eight business-to-business agreements.
“As you witnessed, this meeting has produced 26 tangible and concrete achievements across various fields. These outcomes reflect the increasingly broad and deep cooperation between us,” he said during a joint press conference with Wong at Istana Merdeka, here on Monday, which was streamed live on YouTube.
Wong arrived in Jakarta on Sunday evening for the retreat, which Prabowo said was the second such meeting between the two leaders.
Prabowo highlighted cooperation on cross-border electricity trade as one of the outcomes of the retreat, saying Indonesia had appointed sovereign investment agency BPI Danantara to implement the initiative on Indonesia’s side.
Prabowo said Indonesia and Singapore would also proceed with implementing their bilateral defence cooperation agreement, adding that the two countries remained committed to strengthening cooperation in both security and broader strategic areas.
He said a strong partnership was built not only on trust between governments but also between the peoples of both countries, underscoring the importance of enhancing connectivity, tourism, education and youth exchanges. — Bernama
