SINGAPORE, Nov 10 — Hong Kong acting legend Tony Leung Chiu-wai is headed to the 36th Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF), joining a glittering line-up at Singapore’s biggest film event, reported The Straits Times.

The 63-year-old actor will appear in a dialogue session titled In Conversation With Tony Leung on November 28, followed by a special screening of his latest feature Silent Friend on November 29. 

He will be joined by the film’s Hungarian director Ildikó Enyedi, who clinched the Fipresci Prize at the 82nd Venice Film Festival earlier this year.

Silent Friend is a German-French-Hungarian production that unfolds across three eras in a German university, exploring humanity’s search for connection with nature and one another. 

Leung stars as a Hong Kong neurologist whose study on infant brainwaves is disrupted by the Covid-19 lockdown, prompting him to turn his attention to an ancient ginkgo tree.

The film also features French actress Léa Seydoux and Swiss talent Luna Wedler. 

It premiered in Venice on September 5 to strong critical reception, cementing Leung’s place as one of Asia’s most enduring cinematic icons.

According to The Straits Times, Leung’s dialogue session will be moderated by Singapore actress and festival ambassador Rebecca Lim. 

The event will be held at Marina Bay Sands’ Hibiscus Ballroom and conducted in English and Cantonese, with English interpretation provided.

Tickets for the session go on sale today at noon via Sistic, and if past editions are any indication, they are likely to sell out fast.
