SINGAPORE, Nov 2 — Authorities in Singapore have ordered the closure of a fire-damaged industrial building in the eastern precint of Eunos, for safety inspections after a major blaze tore through the site on yesterday evening.
In a Facebook post today, the island-state’s Building and Construction Authority (BCA) said it will serve orders to the owner of the single-storey building at 1079 Eunos Avenue 7, requiring the premises to be closed off for detailed structural assessment and repair works.
The owner must also appoint a Professional Engineer to advise on safety measures, inspect the affected structure and recommend permanent rectification works, the agency said in a statement.
According to report in CNA yesterday, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the fire at about 5.30pm and brought it under control three hours later, before fully extinguishing it around 11pm.
Three workshop units were destroyed while the roof of a fourth was partially damaged in the blaze, which involved building materials and office equipment.
SCDF said around 60 firefighters and 16 emergency vehicles were deployed, using multiple water jets, monitors and remote-controlled firefighting machines to contain the flames.
Two firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation and exhaustion but have since been discharged, while investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
