SINGAPORE, Oct 17 — The Singapore Police Force (SPF) said today that its probe into the death of Indian singer Zubeen Garg may take another three months, CNA reported.

The 52-year-old singer-songwriter died on September 19 while in Singapore for a cultural festival.

The police previously said they were called to St John’s Island at around 3.30pm, where Garg was found unconscious and later pronounced dead at hospital. No foul play is suspected.

“The SPF is committed to conducting a thorough and professional investigation into the case, and this takes time,” the police said today, as cited by the Singapore-based news organisation.

“We seek the patience and understanding of the parties involved. Meanwhile, we urge the public not to speculate and spread unverified information.”

Even as investigations continue, SPF has provided a copy of Garg’s autopsy report and preliminary findings to the High Commission of India on request.

Once investigations conclude, findings will be submitted to the State Coroner in Singapore, who will decide whether to hold a Coroner’s Inquiry. The outcome of any inquiry will be made public.

The circumstances surrounding Garg’s death have raised questions in his home state of Assam, where he was a cultural icon.

Multiple reports indicate he had gone scuba diving and experienced breathing difficulties. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said drowning was the cause of death.

News of Garg’s sudden passing drew tributes from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and acclaimed music composer AR Rahman. Garg rose to fame with the hit song Ya Ali from the 2006 movie Gangster and was celebrated as both a musician and a cultural figure in Assam.

He was cremated in Guwahati with state honours and a 21-gun salute, with over a million mourners attending.

Indian media reported that Assam authorities have launched their own probe into the singer’s death, arresting five people, including his manager and the festival organiser.
