KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 — Malaysian action film Chelot has hit RM19.5 million at the box office as of September 27, with director Adrian Teh confirming that a sequel is now in development.

The announcement was made on Monday at Bonda Kuala Lumpur in Kampung Baru during a celebration marking the film’s box-office performance, where Teh declared: “Chelot 2 is a go.”

The sequel remains in its early stages, with work currently focused on the script.

No shooting or release date has been announced, while details on whether the original cast will return remain up in the air.

The RM19.5 million haul puts Chelot second among the highest-grossing Malaysian films of 2026, behind Tarung: Unforgiven, which has collected RM23.3 million.

Polong is currently third with RM15 million, followed by Bobby Husaini’s Libang Libu with RM14.1 million and Nazifdin Nasrudin’s Malaikat Malam with RM12.2 million, rounding out the top five local films to have crossed the RM10 million mark this year.

Chelot has drawn particular praise for its action sequences, 95 per cent of which were achieved using practical effects rather than CGI.

Its standout set piece is a single-take action sequence recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records as the longest of its kind in Malaysian cinematic history.

Produced by ACT 2 Pictures, Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC), Astro Shaw, SunStrong Entertainment and Marvellous Culture & Film, Chelot features an ensemble cast led by Beto Kusyairy, Shukri Yahaya, Shaheizy Sam, Nadhir Nasar, Alicia Amin, Mustaqim Bahadon and Theebaan G.

The film follows special operations police officer Inspector Haqqim (Shukri), who is struggling with debt and family pressure.

After a high-stakes raid goes tragically wrong, he secretly becomes an informant for a dangerous weapons-smuggling ring led by Datuk Bakri (Shaheizy) and his right-hand man Azraf (Beto).

Haqqim finds himself caught between his duties as a police officer and the criminal underworld, forcing him into a dangerous game in which his loyalties are constantly tested.

Chelot is still screening in cinemas nationwide.
