KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 — Singer Faizal Tahir believes patriotic songs do not necessarily need to be arranged with rousing music, as sincere lyrics and a strong melody are more effective in touching listeners’ hearts and nurturing a love for the country.

Faizal, whose real name is Ahmad Faizal Mohammad Tahir, 48, said a piece of music should be able to leave a meaningful message with listeners, particularly the younger generation who will inherit the country’s future.

“...we need to look at what we want to get from the song,” he told reporters when met at the Meet-and-Greet Session with Faizal Tahir at Bendang KL here recently.

The Mahakarya Cinta singer said the approach to engaging younger generations, including Generation Z and Generation Alpha, should take into account their preference for music that is lighter and less complex.

At the same time, he wants such works to remain relevant and enjoyable for older generations without compromising the values and messages they seek to convey.

Faizal said his desire to produce patriotic works was also influenced by his nearly two decades of experience in the music industry, as well as his responsibilities as a father and observations during his travels abroad.

“I cannot sit in Parliament, nor can I be involved in administering the country. So, as a Malaysian, this is what I can do. This is my contribution,” he said.

Sharing details of preparations for the ‘Faizal Tahir: Suara Rakyat’ concert, scheduled for Oct 3 at Unifi Arena, he said rehearsals are now in full swing, with attention also being given to his health to ensure a smooth performance.

In terms of the repertoire, he said 27 songs would be performed at the concert, which carries the theme ‘Suara Rakyat’ (Voice of the People).

“Music has a very important place in society and communities in conveying a message. The ‘Suara Rakyat’ concert is about conveying the message that, as Malaysians, we can sit together, stand together and defend our country,” he said.

So far, about 80 per cent of the tickets have been sold. — Bernama
