KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 — Insidious: Out of the Further, the sixth instalment in the Insidious franchise, has opened at No. 2 at the Malaysian box office.

Malaysian horror fans and local reviewers have largely praised the latest chapter as a refreshingly creepy return to form and a significant improvement over the franchise’s previous two instalments.

While some feel it still falls prey to the familiar shortcomings of a long-running horror franchise, the enduring appeal of Insidious proves that audiences are still drawn to the series.

As August draws to a close, Spider-Man: Brand New Day remains at No. 1 at the local box office, while Stephen Chow’s Kung Fu Soccer is in third place.

Malaysian series are once again making their mark on streaming platforms, with Bulan Henti Bicara returning to the top of Netflix’s chart.

Meanwhile, Cela, which debuted on Viu on Aug 20, has already climbed to the top spot, while another local series, Cinta Dalam Sekam, ranks second.

Cinta Dalam Sekam has also become a major talking point among viewers, particularly following its mind-blowing ending.

Over on Disney+, The Husband continues its strong run, remaining at No. 1 for another week.
