SEOUL, July 15 — The creative minds behind some of K-pop’s biggest performances are trading the studio for the stage, with choreographers linked to BTS and Blackpink set to compete in an international dance showdown here next month.

The International Dance League (IDL) Seoul series will bring together six dance crews from around the world at Kyung Hee University’s Grand Peace Hall on August 1.

Among those taking part is South Korea’s 1Million, co-founded by Lia Kim, whose choreography credits include Blackpink and Twice.

Canada’s Brotherhood will also join the competition, featuring Scott Forsyth, who has worked with BTS and Stray Kids.

The line-up also includes Singapore’s Jam Republic, Norway’s Quick Style, New Zealand’s The Royal Family and the United States’ GRV.

Jam Republic’s Julian DeGuzman has worked on NCT’s Kick It (2020), while Nasir Sirikhan was involved in BTS’ Boy With Luv (2019).

The Seoul event is expected to turn the spotlight on the choreographers who usually stay behind the scenes creating the moves that define K-pop performances.

IDL, which launched last year as a global professional dance competition league, has already held events in New York, Vancouver and Sydney this year.
