‘Malam Terlarang’ director Labu dies at Kuala Selangor home

KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 — Director Nurhanisham Muhammad, better known as Labu, passed away at his residence in Kuala Selangor yesterday evening.

News of his passing was confirmed by his nephew, Wan Sleep, when contacted by the media. According to him, the late filmmaker breathed his last at around 5pm at his home in Taman Kuala Selangor Jaya, believed to be due to breathing difficulties.

The sad news was also shared by several figures in the local entertainment industry, including the late director’s close friend and renowned filmmaker Shahrulezad Mohameddin.

Many artistes and members of the local creative industry also expressed sadness over his passing, describing him as friendly and approachable.

The late director helmed the horror film Malam Terlarang, which was released in October last year to positive reviews.

He also served as a cinematographer for films such as Sangkar (2019), Talbis Iblis (2022), and Don Dukun (2024), among others.

In addition, he contributed behind the scenes to several drama productions, including Budak Hostel Otaknya Sewel (2023), X-Change (2024), First Wives (2025), and Kelas Belakang.
