KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 — Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh will make her first Chinese‑language screen appearance in almost a decade in Bai Xue’s new comedy drama This Is My Time.
Hong Kong‑based Media Asia is launching international sales for the film at the Cannes market, according to Screendaily.
The film is produced by Wen Muye through his Shanghai‑based General Dream Studio and is scheduled for release this year.
Yeoh plays a 70‑year‑old woman who tries to reclaim her independence after being placed in a nursing home.
Her character’s life changes when a young coach discovers her rare talent for solving the Rubik’s Cube and turns her into a record‑breaking sensation on television.
The film also stars Liu Haoran, known for the Detective Chinatown franchise.
Director Bai made her feature debut with The Crossing in 2018, which premiered at both Toronto and Berlin.
Malaysia‑born Yeoh won the best actress Oscar in 2023 for Everything Everywhere All At Once.
She began her career in Hong Kong, rising to fame as an action star in the 1980s and 1990s before moving into Hollywood.
Yeoh last appeared in a Chinese‑language film in 2018’s Master Z: The Ip Man Legacy, in which she made a special appearance.
