KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 — American rapper and singer Post Malone has just announced his first ever Malaysia show happening on September 27 at the TM National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

Not only that, KL is also poised to be Post Malone’s largest show in South-east Asia, with the TM National Stadium being the biggest venue on his regional tour, boasting a capacity of over 87,000.

For those who are unfamiliar with the name, here’s a breakdown of what makes the tattoo-laden artist one of the most exciting acts in the modern music scene.

From humble beginnings to consistent chart topper

Post Malone, whose real name is Austin Post first burst onto the scene with his viral SoundCloud track White Iverson in February 2015.

The song is a reference to the legendary National Basketball Association (NBA) player Allen Iverson who won the NBA’s Most Valuable Player award in 2001 while playing for the Philadelphia 76ers.

Before he was putting out one hit song after another, in an interview with Noisey, Post recalled crashing in his best friend’s closet for some time when he first moved to Los Angeles and would often rummage his best friend’s couch and car to look for coins to buy cigarettes.

Post also revealed that his stage name came from a rap name generator website and he actually got into music thanks to his dad and popular rhythm-based electronic game series Guitar Hero — more specifically Guitar Hero 2.

Following the breakthrough with White Iverson, the 30-year-old went on to put up several more projects most notably his debut mixtape August 26th in May 2016, followed by his first official studio album titled Stoney in December 2016.

Despite a slow start, Stoney made history after spending a stunning 77 weeks in the Top 10 Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in August 2018, dethroning the King of Pop Michael Jackson’s Thriller album.

The album also contains some of Post’s famous songs such as White Iverson and also the iconic Congratulations track featuring Quavo — which became his first Diamond-certified track by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

A diamond-certification also means that the single has sold at least 10 million equivalent units in the United States alone — Post Malone currently has nine diamond-certified singles, which has earned him a spot in the Guinness World Records for artist with the Most RIAA Diamond Singles back in 2024.

Among his other songs that are certified diamond include singles such as Sunflower featuring Swae Lee, Rockstar featuring 21 Savage and Better Now

Pivoting to Hollywood and country music

Aside from cementing his name in the music industry, Post is also building up his portfolio in Hollywood, with him having to appear in several blockbuster films in recent years.

This includes a cameo in the 2018 Sony’s animated blockbuster Spider-man: Into the Spider-Verse where he voiced a Brooklyn Bystander — he was also featured in the animated film’s soundtrack Sunflower

He has also worked with other Hollywood stars such as Jake Gyllenhaal in the Prime Video’s 2024 Road House remake where he played Carter Ford.

In Netflix’s 2020 action film Spenser Confidential that featured Mark Wahlberg, he plays a character named Squeeb.

In the midst of building his filmography, Post dropped his F-1Trillion album in August 2024.

What is interesting to note is that instead of going with his usual hip-hop and R&B genre, Post chose to pay homage to his Texas upbringing and his love for the Nashville sound by having a full-on country studio album.

F-1 Trillion also boasts several big names in country music as part of its featured artists such as Morgan Wallen, Dolly Parton, Hank Williams Jr, Tim McGraw and Brad Paisley.

The lead single of the album, I Had Some Help featuring Morgan Wallen, was the number one song in the Billboards’ Songs of the Summer chart in 2024.

In the same year, the album debuted at number one for the Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart.

Where to start with Post Malone?

Post Malone has an extensive discography which includes six full-studio albums.

He has done features with big names in the industry such as Taylor Swift, the late Ozzy Osbourne, Doja Cat and also Beyonce.
