KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 — Acclaimed Tamil film star Karthik Sivakumar, better known as Karthi, arrived in Malaysia yesterday afternoon as part of the promotional tour for Banduan, the latest film co-produced by Astro Shaw and Number Twenty One Media.

He was warmly welcomed by Banduan’s lead actor Datuk Aaron Aziz, along with production representatives and enthusiastic fans who turned up to show their support.

“Karthi is very humble and friendly.

“He even asked me how many films I’ve acted in.

“Just as I was treated kindly in Chennai during the filming of Tik Tik Tik, I feel it’s only right that I extend the same warm hospitality to my guest this time,” said Aaron.

Karthi is best known for his role in Kaithi (which means prisoner), directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The film, which became a massive phenomenon in India following its 2019 release, is the first instalment in the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU).

The action film tells the story of a prisoner who helps the police take down a drug syndicate during a dangerous mission while on his way to reunite with his daughter.

The Malaysian adaptation, titled Banduan, is directed by Kroll Azry and reimagined with a local touch. It stars Aaron Aziz in the lead role alongside Datuk Rosyam Nor, Datuk Afdlin Shauki, Husyairi Hussain, Fadhli Masoot, Abi Madyan and several others.

Karthi is scheduled to be in Malaysia for two days to participate in Banduan’s promotional activities, including a press conference and a fan meet-and-greet session.

The gala premiere of Banduan will be held tomorrow, ahead of its nationwide release in cinemas on November 6, 2025.
