KUALA LUMPUR, August 7 — Hollywood actor and wrestling superstar Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson gave an up-and-coming UFC fighter a home after finding out that the the fighter only had US$7.49 (RM34) in his account.

Themba Gorimbo, 32, sold gear and used most of his UFC earnings to send money home in Zimbabwe, where he also helped to buy a well so the community had safe drinking water.

Due to this, the welterweight fighter struggled to buy a house for his family and had sought shelter at a gym in Miami.

That changed when Johnson got wind of the matter and promised to do something.

On Thursday, the Black Adam star surprised Gorimbo by turning up at the gym and presented the struggling athlete a home, which Johnson would pay the lease and all expenses for as long as Gorimbo wants to live there, People reported.

"Oh my god, thank you!” Gorimbo responded when Johnson revealed the surprise.

"Now there’s no more couch sleeping, this is your house,” Johnson told Gorimbo.

"Welcome home.”

He added that Gorimbo need not think about anything except concentrate on getting his family to the US and train to be a champion.

Gorimbo’s story resonated with Johnson as he too struggled financially during his early professional wrestling career where he lived in a car with just US$7 to his name.

Johnson told Gorimbo that the latter’s story moved him.

"When I found out you had seven bucks in your bank account, I know what that’s like. I was here in Miami when I had seven bucks,” he said.

Responding to Johnson’s goodwill, Gorimbo said he inspired him to work hard.

"I will become a champion, trust me.”

Johnson had recently donated a seven-figure amount to help The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) following their decision to go on strike.

Actors went on strike at midnight July 14 after last-ditch talks with studios on their demands over dwindling pay and the threat posed by artificial intelligence ended without a deal.
