KUALA LUMPUR, June 12 — The joy of fans of award-winning singer Faizal Tahir was short-lived, with the steep ticket prices of his highly-anticipated first solo concert in 17 years.
While many were thrilled at the announcement of his show on Sept 2 at the World Trade Centre, the many were disappointed over the pricey tickets ranging from RM488 to RM688.
"OMG, aren’t there tickets under RM300?” asked one Twitter user.
"I’ve been waiting for this since I was eight-years-old but damn the ticket prices,” said another.
Some compared Faizal’s ticket prices to that of Ella and Siti Nurhaliza’s, veterans who have been in the industry for longer.
One such post was: "Ironically, the two giants Ella & Siti Nurhaliza in Axiata Arena were far more affordable. I still remember Siti said, "Not all of my fans are well off, I wanna make sure that they too can afford to see me live”.
Siti Nurhaliza said this of her 2019 concert, which sold tickets that started at RM105.
The cheapest ticket for Ella’s 35th anniversary concert which sold out in 24 hours, was RM99.
Another commented: "My question is how a singer who’s been singing for 17 years can charge twice as much as a 35-year veteran. Half the body of work but twice the ticket price. My math isn’t mathing.”
