Announced at Star Wars Celebration in London yesterday (April 7), the new Star Wars film will be set after The Rise of Skywalker and will focus on Rey rebuilding the Jedi order.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy revealed that the movie will be directed by Ms. Marvel director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight.
"I’ve always been attracted to the hero’s journey and the fact that the world needs many more heroes,” Chinoy said during the Lucasfilm presentation.
Chinoy added that she has been ‘immersing herself’ at a Jedi academy with a ‘powerful Jedi master’ who was revealed to be Ridley.
"I'm so so thrilled to be back at Celebration with all of you (Star Wars fans). Thank you Kathy and Sharmeen for having me back,” Ridley said on stage.
"I'm very thrilled to be continuing this journey.”
Chinoy will be the first woman of colour to direct a Star Wars film.
Alongside Chinoy’s film, Kennedy announced Logan director James Mangold and The Mandalorian director Dave Filoni will also helm future Star Wars instalments.
