KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 — Actor-model Hariz Hamdan shared that he was just doing what the director asked of him, following his shirtless scene in a local drama recently.
As a industry newcomer, the 20-year-old would follow the director's instructions. And he would do what is required of his role, as long as it is not too much.
"If the director asked me to take my shirt off, I would do so but with certain conditions,” he told mStar.
"I would also discuss the matter with the director first as I am not someone to take my clothes off that easily,” he said.
Hariz also brushed off speculations that he would do anything including going shirtless just to get more acting gigs.
The Mens’ Biore model added that he’s not afraid to turn down any request that is considered overboard or could potentially be demeaning.
"We need to look after our dignity, after all. I’m just a human being who believes in limitations based on my rights,” he said.
On the issue regarding looks over talent in the local film industry, Hariz agreed that having good looks is an advantage. However, having talent is more important for one to continue in the industry.
"For me, it's important for an actor to play his or her character based on the actor’s appearance. As actors, it’s important for us to bring the characters to life and having good looks is just a bonus.
"For actors who wish to stay relevant in the industry, talent is needed,” Hariz said.
He added that he had joined acting classes to further improve his craft.
Previously, the actor appeared shirtless in a scene for local drama series Biarkan Ia Pergi. In that scene, his character Badry was beaten up by lead character Zaquan, played by Ammar Baharin.
