KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 20 — It was a most exciting way to owning a car for two 23-year-olds today when they won a brand new Nissan X-Trail SUVs each at the Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) "Ticket to Drive” contest.

Sim Jian Qin and Asyraf Bahari, who just had to buy a movie ticket from GSC in order to enter the contest, beat 23 other contestants in a series of challenges and games held as part of the event finale held at Town Park, MyTown Shopping Centre in Cheras.

There were shouts of joy as Sim and Asyraf won the Nissan X-Trail 2.5L and Nissan X-Trail 2.0L respectively at the event. Besides the new set of wheels, the lucky pair were also rewarded with six months’ and three months’ worth of free movie tickets and popcorn combos respectively. 

The other contestants also took home attractive prizes such as hotel stays at the Taaras Beach and Spa Resort in Redang Island, ZTE Axon 7 phones, Dolby Atoms movie vouchers, Gold Class tickets, as well as movie and popcorn vouchers.

The contest, which ran from October to Deccember 2017, required customers to simply purchase their movie tickets via GSC’s website, mobile app, or ticketing counters to automatically be in the running to win the grand prizes. 

GSC then randomly selected 30 lucky winners to participate in the on-ground affair. It saw 25 of them competing against each other in several rounds of fun yet challenging games which included a treasure hunt around the mall to select the top 10 participants for the next stage.

This was followed by the "Reel It In” game which required contestants to reel in a weighted popcorn box using only ticket stubs.

The contest culminated with the final round which was the "Unlock the Box” challenge whereby the top five finalists had to complete a series of tasks to attain numbered coupons to unlock a safe which had the car key inside.

GSC chief executive officer Koh Mei Lee said, "As the country’s leading cinema exhibitor, we are always looking for ways to offer customers enriching cinema experiences.

"We are thrilled with the success of ‘Ticket to Drive’, which we kicked-off in conjunction with our 30th anniversary to reward loyal customers who have supported us through the years,” she added.

The excitement continues as GSC has announced that its "Ticket to Drive 2” contest will kick-off this Monday. It continues till April 30, giving another two lucky cinema-goers across Malaysia a chance to win attractive prizes including a brand-new Nissan X-Trail.

Additionally, customers who purchase tickets specifically at the newly-opened GSC Paradigm Mall in Johor Baru will be in the running to win a brand-new Nissan Almera.

Similar to its first round, the contest is open to all GSC members above 18-years-old who reside in Malaysia only. To become a member, one needs to sign up (for free) via the GSC website or mobile app.
