DMX’s viral ‘Rudolph’ gets official release

LOS ANGELES, Dec 1 — A rendition of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer by rapper DMX that went viral back in 2012 finally has an official studio version, part of a new holiday playlist by Spotify.

DMX performed the song back in 2012 during a live radio interview, a video of which went viral.

In the new version, DMX uses similar raspy vocals, backed by drums and jingle bells.

The track is part of a playlist released by streaming service Spotify and featuring a host of other performers performing their takes on holiday tunes.

Among then, Sam Smith delivers the Joni Mitchell ballad River, Miley Cyrus sings Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree and Sleigh Ride, and Wolf Alice performs Santa Baby.

Other contributions come from Josh Groban, Jack Johnson, George Ezra, Janelle Kroll, Fifth Harmony, Yoke Lore, Kelly Clarkson, Demi Lovato and Wyclef Jean.
