LOS ANGELES, Feb 16 — Jared Leto is set to make the transition from actor to director in a new police thriller for Paramount Pictures.

The Hollywood star will move behind the camera for 77, his feature directorial debut, Variety reports.

The film will tell the tale of two police officers attempting to rescue heiress Patty Hearst from kidnap in Los Angeles in 1974.

Although the project marks the Oscar winner's first feature film as a director, he has been practising his new craft by helming various music videos and commercials, as well as the 2012 documentary Artefact. — AFP-Relaxnews
