LONDON, Nov 21 — Organisers of the Desert Trip festival have reportedly offered The Police more than US$9 million (RM36 million) to reunite for the 2017 event, according to The Mirror.

Desert Trip was created by the co-founder of Coachella and is affectionately dubbed "Oldchella”.

The six-day music festival debuted in Indio, California, in October and featured headliners such as Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Neil Young, Paul McCartney, The Who and Roger Waters.

The Police made up of Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland debuted in 1978 and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.

The band’s hits include Don’t Stand So Close to Me, Every Breath You Take and Roxanne.

They reunited for the Grammys in February 2007, before embarking on a 30th anniversary tour that ended in August 2008.

Sting, however, told The Sun in November that he has no intention of reuniting with his old band again.
