LOS ANGELES, Oct 18 — Netflix has given the go-ahead to Atypical, a new dark comedy series set to star Jennifer Jason Leigh, reports Variety.
Created and written by How I Met Your Mother writer Robia Rashid, the family comedy will tell the coming-of-age story of an 18-year-old with autism and his search for love and independence.
British actor Keir Gilchrist is set to play autistic teen Sam, with Leigh as Sam’s mother.
Other cast members confirmed include Michael Rapaport as Sam’s father, Brigette Lundy-Paine as his sister, and How To Get Away With Murder actress Amy Okuda as Sam’s therapist.
The confirmation of the show’s eight-episode first season follows the success of ABC’s Speechless, starring Minnie Driver as the mother of a teen with cerebral palsy.
Production on Atypical will begin later this year in Los Angeles. — AFP-Relaxnews
