General Manager of GSC Movies, Tung Yow Kong, said that it was not expected for the movie to create such a phenomenon.

"When we were deciding to take on the movie, never once did it cross our minds that it will become such a success.

"However, we were surprised when the receptions towards it from local audiences have been extraordinary,” said Tung on Thursday during the dinner at Onsimero Restaurant Intermark Mall, Kuala Lumpur, held to commemorate the success of Train to Busan.

Tung also stated that the movie was the biggest title distributed by GSC Movies and is the highest-grossing South Korean movie in Malaysia.

The success of the movie, which stars Gong Yoo, Kim Su-an, Jung Yu-mi, Ma Dong-seok, Ahn So-Hee and Shoi Woo-shik, came to life since its first week of sneak previews in late August, when it managed to collect RM4.8 million during the period prior to its official release on September 8.

Train to Busan continued down its track of box office success with RM16.4 million on its opening weekend and RM20 million by the following week. — CinemaOnline
