KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 — South Korean zombie thriller Train to Busan is riding the fast train of success in Malaysia as it has become the highest grossing Korean film in the country.

This is surely a marvellous feat, considering that the movie managed to gross RM4.8 million at the box office via sneak shows even before its official nationwide release date of September 8, 2016.

According to GSC Movies, the sneak shows had started on August 27, 2016, and it took a total of seven days of non-consecutive screenings at varied locations and timings to reach the RM4.8 million.

Over the weekend the movie had dethroned Jason Statham's Mechanic: Resurrection which fell to second place while newcomer, Pete's Dragon had nestled at third place.

Another zombie movie is also currently showing in cinemas. It is by British filmmaker Steve Barker called The Rezort which opened at number seven at the local box office charts.

Having gained momentum via good box office numbers overseas, including in its home country, Train to Busan's current box office numbers is approximately US$88.14 million worldwide.

It is also the highest grossing Korean film in Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
