LOS ANGELES, Sept 5 — Here’s your first look at USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage that sees Nicolas Cage star as Captain Charles Butler McVay, whose ship was torpedoed in the South Pacific in 1945 after delivering parts for the first atomic bombs.
The film recounts the famous and haunting true story of the crew of the USS Indianapolis whose ship was sunk by a Japanese submarine in 1945 after the crew successfully delivered parts for the first atomic bombs.
The crew were left stranded at sea for five days, during which most of them were either eaten by sharks or killed by salt-water poisoning from drinking the ocean water. Only 317 sailors survived and McVay was exonerated more than half a century later.
The official synopsis of the film reads: "The harrowing true story of the crew of the USS Indianapolis, who were stranded in the Philippine Sea for five days after delivering the atomic weapons that would eventually end WWII. As they awaited rescue, they endured extreme thirst, hunger, and relentless shark attacks.”
The film also stars Tom Sizemore and Thomas Jane.
USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage is set for release on November 11.
