Portishead release cover of ABBA’s ‘SOS’ after shock Brexit result (VIDEO)

LONDON, June 24 — Portishead released their haunting cover of the ABBA hit SOS in tribute to slain MP Jo Cox today.

But the timing, which comes a day after Britain voted to leave the European Union, makes the song even more poignant.

The British trip hop band posted the video for the song on YouTube honouring the British MP, who was murdered last Thursday.

The track was first heard in the recent film adaptation of JG Ballard’s 1975 dystopian novel High-Rise, starring Tom Hiddleston and Sienna Miller.

The black-and-white video shows lead singer Beth Gibbons sitting forlornly before reaching out to the camera as a quote from Cox’s maiden speech in parliament appears: "We have far more in common than that which divides us.”

The band have said they do not plan to release the track commercially.
