SINGAPORE, June 6 — Expect a rocking good show at this year’s Formula 1 as the likes of pop princess Kylie Minogue and Queen hit Singapore shores.

Organisers announced the first phase of their entertainment line-up for the 2016 Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix (SGP), which will be held from September 16 to 18.

Classic rock act Queen (featuring original members guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor) will be making their debut show here with Adam Lambert, who has fronted the band since 2011. Queen + Adam Lambert will be headlining the bill at the Padang Stage (Zone 4) on September 17, after the qualifying sessions.

Queen + Adam Lambert headlined the recent Rock in Rio Lisbon, playing to 74,000 people there, and have also performed to a sell-out crowd at Barcelona’s Palau Sant Jordi Olympic arena.

Lambert is no stranger to the SGP — he was part of the line-up for 2010. But last year, the former American Idol alum created a furore after a petition was launched to protest his scheduled performance at Mediacorp’s New Year’s Eve concert, Celebrate 2016, at the Marina Bay Floating Platform.

Lambert went on to perform his set as planned, which was attended by thousands of people.

Australian-born Minogue, whose last concert here was during her Aphrodite Tour, is making her debut at the F1 stage, and will headline the programme on September 16 at the Padang Stage, after the practice runs are done.

English indie rock band Bastille will also perform at the Padang Stage on September 17, before the Formula 1 Qualifying session.

However, the headlining act for Sunday has yet to be announced.

Other acts listed for SGP include English indie rock band Bastille, who will also perform at the Padang Stage on September 17; as well as American a cappella group Pentatonix and American disco kings KC And The Sunshine Band.

Pentatonix, the winners of the third season of The Sing-Off, will be performing their infectious pop-rock covers at the Village Stage on September 17, and at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre on September 18 before the race proper.

KC and The Sunshine Band, known for their hits Boogie Shoes, That’s The Way (I Like It) and Please Don’t Go, will be performing at the Village Stage on September 16 (before Formula 1 Practice 2 session) and the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre on September 17, before the qualifying session.

Organisers also said that the Padang Stage will be re-sited this year, and will be located between Padang Grandstand A and Padang Grandstand B, facing Connaught Drive and Esplande Park instead of Empress Place.

This is to “deliver a more up-close concert experience for all ticketholders”, said organisers. — TODAY
