HONG KONG, April 25 — It was a difficult week for Cecilia Cheung, even by the standards of Hong Kong’s jaded tabloid press.

According to entertainment site JayneStars, it all started when mysterious flyers started appearing all over Hong Kong, alleging that the 35-year-old actress had cheated millions from a film contract.

The flyers carried the message: “[She] pulled the plank after crossing the bridge! Ungrateful! This trashy fake [artist] signed a contract and successfully stole HK$32 million (RM16.13 million). She failed to execute her end of the contract. She’s a disgrace to all entertainers!”

The image, which appeared to be taken from the official poster for Cheung’s film The Lion Roars 2, showed Cheung’s eyes whited out.

Shortly afterwards, Cheung’s manager, only known as Emily, received a threatening phone call.

The anonymous caller said Cheung owed him HK$32 million because she had reneged on a film contract, but did not provide more details.

JayneStars said, quoting IHKTV, that Emily added, “If there is evidence, then pursue legal action. No need to use such lowly methods, akin to the triads, to smear others. Cecilia has contacted the police through her lawyers for her safety. Her lawyers have also requested the police to find the culprit as soon as possible. We will not take this lightly.”

Also last week, Cheung and her ex-husband Nicholas Tse were forced to issue a joint statement denying a tabloid report that the 35-year-old entertainer had such a poor relationship with their younger son Quintus that he refuses to spend time with his father.

In their statement, according to JayneStars, the couple stressed that they maintained a good relationship, were both very involved in their sons’ upbringing, and frequently met.

They also asked that their sons be left alone to grow up in a healthy, happy, and normal environment.

To top it all off, Cheung was also reportedly forced to lower the asking price for her property in a luxury residential building in Mid-Levels, after being unable to offload it for some time.

She has bumped the price down to HK$160 million from the original HK$200 million.
