The original series debuted in September 2015 after a successful pilot the previous year, and saw Ron Perlman (Beauty and the Beast) become Judge Pernell Harris who, prompted by tragic family events and what he believes to be the voice of God, takes the law into his own hands.

Audiences and critics did not reach consensus over the merits of Hand of God season one, with review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes scoring it with a 30 per cent approval rating from reviewers but a 76 per cent rating from viewers.

Dunaway is to play new character Aunt Val in the second season, expected to air later in 2016. — AFP-Relaxnews
