John Legend to go Off Broadway with 'Turn Me Loose'

LOS ANGELES, March 24 — Musician John Legend is taking his musical talents to the stage, with plans to co-produce the Off Broadway production of Turn Me Loose, reports Variety.

Legend will also write the original song for the new play, which stars television actor Joe Morton (Scandal) and tells the story of 1960s civil rights activist and comedian Dick Gregory.

Gregory’s comedy led to activist work which saw him make waves alongside Martin Luther King, Jr and Medgar Evans.

Actor John Carlin also has a prominent role in the production.

Previews for Turn Me Loose begin on May 3 at the Westside Theater in New York, with an official May 19 opening. — AFP-Relaxnews
