KUALA LUMPUR, March 23 — With the 2016 China Film Week kicking off in Kuala Lumpur this week, the organisers hope that it would strengthen the exchange among filmmakers of both Malaysia and China.

A total of five Chinese films have been chosen to screen during the event, including the highest-grossing Chinese animated film, Monkey King: Hero is Back.

Also to be screened is Raman Hui’s 3D fantasy action comedy, Monster Hunt.

Other movies are Jean-Jacques Annaud’s Wolf Totem as well as comedy films Go Away! Mr Tumour and Lost in Thailand.

The event is jointly organised by National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) with China’s Chinese Film Bureau of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT) and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Malaysia.

According to a post on Finas’ Facebook, Finas is also planning to organise a Malaysia Film Week in Beijing or Shanghai.

“We can highly explore on the Muslim community in China or the untold history between the two countries,” said Director General of FINAS, Datuk Kamil Othman.

Meanwhile, ECNS News reported that Liang Ge, the Deputy Director of (SAPPRFT), stated that Chinese movies already have a long history with Malaysia.

“As early as the 1920s and 1930s, Chinese movie companies had been developing well in what is now known to be Malaysia. That fact is important in the history of Chinese movies,” he said.

China Film Week 2016 takes place from now until March 25, 2016 at GSC Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur. — Cinema Online
