KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 20 — Looks like Pekin Ibrahim and Syafiq Yusof’s Mat Moto is giving a good start to the local film industry as the film succeeded at the box office in collecting RM3 million after just four days of release.

The phenomenon was a real surprise to Pekin who says producing films that are closely related to him coupled with the support of the fans is an immense pleasure.

“I was shocked and never expected the collection to exceed expectations. I thought the first day we would collect around RM500,000, but then I was shocked when informed by Datuk Yusof Haslam that the collection had exceeded RM1 million, I am truly grateful for this reception,” he told Harian Metro.

However, Pekin, who is also the lead of the film, said the turnover was not anticipated; but he wanted the audience to appreciate the story and the life of bikers who are often labelled as hooligans.

Pekin also says he did not place a box office target, but if and when it reaches RM5 million, then the planning for Mat Moto 2 will begin.

Other than Pekin, the film that was released on January 14 also stars Shaheizy Sam, Datuk Rosyam Nor, Syamsul Yusof, Zul Huzaimy, Faizal Hussein, Falisha Crossley and Cat Farish. — Cinema Online
