KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 29 — Ip Man 3 has proven to be the mightier adversary in the battle at the Christmas box office in Malaysia and Singapore.
The Hong Kong martial arts epic starring Donnie Yen has knocked Star Wars: The Force Awakens from its top spot on the Malaysia and Singapore weekend box office chart for the weekend of December 24 to 27, according to Cinema Online.
Despite notching up the highest-grossing worldwide opening of all time and being the fastest movie to reach US$1 billion (RM4.2 billion), Star Wars: The Force Awakens has dropped to second place in the second week of release.
The local entertainment site reported that Ip Man 3 has grossed RM12 million within just four days of its release in Malaysia and S$2.56 million in its opening weekend in Singapore.
Meanwhile, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip rounded off the top three at the Malaysia and Singapore weekend box office.
