SINGAPORE, Dec 17 — One of the most entertaining performance groups in the world, the Blue Man Group, has announced that it will stage the world premiere of its new tour in Singapore next March. The tour will run until July.
The award-winning group, easily recognisable for its trio of bald and blue-faced performers, will take to the stage at the Sands Theatre located in Marina Bay Sands from March 29 to April 10.
The Blue Man Group was founded by close friends Chris Wink, Matt Goldman and Phil Stanton in 1991, as a way to “celebrate the human spirit through music, science, art and theatre”. It has since grown to become a performing company with permanent shows in the United States in Las Vegas, New York, Orlando, Boston and Chicago, as well as Berlin in Germany. There is also a touring company.
Co-founder Wink said: “When we first began creating performances centred on this innocent, curious character called Blue Man, we never dreamt where he would lead us. We are so honoured to be able to share our show with the people of Singapore and beyond. We believe the Blue Man’s universal message of joyful exuberance and euphoric celebration resonates within all of us.”
Nick Grace, co-producer of the show said Singapore “seemed the obvious choice” when the company was looking for a place to rehearse and open the new show. “(It has) a world-class theatre in one of the most exciting and vibrant cities in the world.”
Producer and CEO of Lunchbox Theatrical Productions, James Cundall, which is co-presenting the show, said he was “excited” about the show. “I have been trying to get this cooler-than-cool show to Singapore since I first saw it years ago, and I am so excited that we have finally succeeded,” he said. “Blue Man Group is hugely popular around the world — first-time audiences leave the theatre so exhilarated by the show that it has one of the highest return businesses of any theatrical event. I know it will be the talk of Singapore and around the South-east Asian region when audiences finally get to experience this innovative, playful and colourful spectacle.”
Milan Rokic, CEO of Sliding Doors Entertainment, agreed, adding: “With no spoken language, except for a narrator, Blue Man Group ... gives everyone the freedom to reconnect with their inner child, to re-experience mischievousness and sheer joy, and see what fun three guys can have with 30 litres of paint and 55 mashed-up bananas in the space of an hour-and-a-half!”
Beyond the stage show, the group has also produced five albums, including the Grammy-nominated Audio, and contributed to numerous film and TV scores, as well as appearing in several commercials and hit TV shows. — TODAY
