LOS ANGELES, Nov 12 — Attention “Star Wars” fans, you’ll definitely want to hear this news: Princess Leia isn’t a Princess anymore, she’ll go by a different name in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.
Director JJ Abrams in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly revealed that the rebel leader has a new title that more aptly reflects her role. “She’s referred to as General. But… there’s a moment in the movie where a character sort of slips and calls her ‘Princess’.”
The character, played by Carrie Fisher, was already a high-ranking Rebel officer in the original trilogy, so it’s not an unprecedented development.
According to Huffington Post, Abrams went on to reveal the challenges facing Leia in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and what it was like to watch Harrison Ford and Fisher share the same scene again.
“The stakes are pretty high in the story for her, so there’s not much goofing around where Leia’s concerned,” he said. “But it felt historic to have her, especially with Harrison, back in scenes together. I can only imagine the baggage that they bring to it, I’m just a fan who loves this stuff, but they’ve been living with it — and living in it — since ‘77.”
Fisher meanwhile describes the older General Leia as “solitary. Under a lot of pressure. Committed as ever to her cause, but I would imagine feeling somewhat defeated, tired, and pissed.”
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” opens in movie theatres on December 18, 2015.
