SHANGHAI, Oct 9 — The nuptials of Chinese actor Huang Xiaoming and Hong Kong model/actress Angelababy, which took place in Shanghai yesterday, have been long awaited by fans and celebrity watchers alike.
They were certainly not left disappointed by one of the most buzzed about events of the year.
Here are some of the highlights from China’s showbiz wedding of 2015:
1. What did they wear?
Huang and Angelababy began the day in traditional Chinese wedding attire for the tea ceremony, but later changed into a suit and gown to exchange vows.
2. There were plenty of tears.
Both husband and wife had tears streaming down their faces when Angelababy was led by her father up the aisle and to Huang’s side.
3. The couple wrote their own romantic wedding vows.
“I don’t know what to say, but I really want to say to you that I will always support you in this life,” Angelababy said to Huang. “No matter if you’re tired or if you’ve encountered unhappy things, think about how I will always be by your side. It is my dream to build a family for you and have an extremely satisfactory life. I hope that when we get old, you will say to me that finding me was a correct and happy thing.”

The groom then said, “I was actually very nervous today. I have to say, my baby, you’re done for. Just wait for the days to come. I’ve never treated anyone so well, except for my mom. All I want to do is offer all the best things in the world to you. I like everything you like, and even when we’re in our seventies and eighties and can’t walk anymore, you will still be my little princess.”
4. It was a fairy-tale wedding — literally.
The Shanghai Exhibition Centre was transformed into a garden castle for the wedding ceremony. The stage was covered in fresh flowers and trees, a task that reportedly took almost 48 hours to complete. Even the wedding cake resembled a castle tower, complete with a mini carousel.
5. There were 527 guests, not the over 2,000 initially speculated.
The number was chosen because the couple registered their marriage on May 27 and because, in Mandarin, “527” sounds similar to “I love my wife.”
6. The guest list was the Who’s Who of Far East Asian entertainment.
More than 100 celebrities from mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan attended the wedding, including Vicki Zhao, Han Hong and Wong Cho Lam. Huang’s groomsmen included Jing Boran, Xiao Shenyang, Tong Dawei), Wang Baoqiang, Li Yundi, Wang Sicong and Jacky Wu.
7. The groom had a surprise gift for his wife.
Huang surprised the bride by announcing that he had established a charity fund in her name. He then played a video showing him visiting hearing-impaired children, before revealing that he had provided financial aid to 527 of these children, one for every guest at the wedding.
8. The charitable acts didn’t stop there.
Huang also announced that all of the trees that had been used to construct the garden for the wedding ceremony would be donated to social welfare organisations, in the hope that they could improve the living environment of the disabled.
Entertainment sites also reported that the couple had surprised family and friends with special wedding favours, comprising cookies baked by the disabled who had received vocational training at a charity organisation in Nanjing. Huang and Angelababy said they hoped this simple act would encourage their wedding guests to support the disabled too.
