SHAH ALAM, Oct 6 — The much-awaited local Tamil movie “Maravan” which, among others, depicts the cruel and dehumanising practices of human trafficking for the purpose of illegal trade is set to hit the cinemas on Thursday.

Film producer cum story writer, M Chandran said the shooting of the movie, which took about 45 days with an estimated budget of more than RM1 million, was inspired by actual human trafficking events happening globally where children are being smuggled for illegal activities like organ trade.

“Through this movie, we want to send a clear message to the parents to make sure they take care of their children.

“I have witnessed cases whereby children are being kidnapped for numerous illegal activities in which trade is taking place rampantly in international waters,” he told Bernama.

Chandran who shot to fame as a vocalist for the Malaysian pioneer Indian band “The Keys” said the movie is set to create a new benchmark for the local Tamil movie industry.

The 120-minute movie loosely narrates the life cycle of a poor rubber tapper with a daily basic income in the range of RM30 to RM40, who is very ambitious to become rich in any possible way that he could to live a luxurious life.

Due to his sense of greed, he blindly involves in illegal activities like smuggling children, drugs and human organs.

The movie directed by SD Puvanendran with a set of 20 crew members, stars S Haridhass, Kumaresh, Denesh Kumar, Kavitha Thiagarajan, Sangeeta, Pushpa Narayan, Seelan and S Darma. — Bernama
