LOS ANGELES, Sept 12 — Pop singer Jessica Simpson has labelled her marriage to Nick Lachey her biggest financial error in a recent interview on Thursday, according to a report by E! Online.

The 35-year-old singer, who has forged a fashion empire outside her singing career, appeared in an interview with CNBC’s Kelly Evans on the ‘Closing Bell’ programme to celebrate the 10th anniversary of her successful clothing brand.

Evans asked the fashion mogul what she thought had been her worst financial mistake, to which Simpson answered, “The biggest money mistakes? I don’t know. For some reason I thought of my first marriage!”

Simpson famously declared that she was a virgin until her marriage to Lachey, 41, formerly a member of boy band 98 Degrees.

The couple got married in 2002, then starred in MTV reality show “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica” from 2003 to 2005, and filed for a divorce a few months after the show ended.

Simpson, whose fame outgrew Lachey during their marriage, reportedly offered Lachey a divorce settlement of US$2 million (RM8.6 million). People reported that the couple did not sign a pre-nuptial agreement.

Luckily for the businesswoman, her successful fashion line came after the divorce. Simpson’s retail empire is valued at an estimated US$1 billion (RM4.3 billion), according to Forbes, and her personal fortune is now worth about US$150 million, The Inquisitr wrote in a report.

When questioned on her business empire, Simpson said, “I’m definitely a person that is all about taking a risk and everything to me is kind of a ‘why not?’. I take an opportunity by the reigns and just go for it…when we started, it was only shoes and now it’s grown so big. I’m just counting my blessings.”

“I don’t always know where all of my money is, but there are people that I love that know where all of my money is,” she told Evans, as quoted by E! Online.

The singer now has two children with second husband Eric Johnson, daughter Maxwell Drew Johnson, three, and son Ace Knute Johnson, two.
