LOS ANGELES, Aug 25 — Purity ring, what purity ring? Nick Jonas is all grown-up and ready to push boundaries.

In drama series “Kingdom”, the former boy band member plays a mixed martial arts fighter who is struggling with his sexuality.

The season one finale showed Jonas’ character being turned away from a gay bar for being too drunk, before heading into a dark alley for a rendezvous with another young man.

Jonas told E!, “It’s all happening. He has a lot of layers to him and he’s trying to figure out exactly who he is.

“It’s tough because he’s living and working in a really macho world and I think he’s just trying to figure out where he fits in in being who he is.

“So it is a struggle and I’m trying to tell the story as honestly as possible with as much depth as possible.”

But he played it coy when asked how far he was willing to go in the name of acting.

“It’s less about romance than it is about human needs. That’s the best way to describe it,” the entertainment website said he added with a laugh.
